This distinctive metal insignia was worn by the infamous Black Brigades or 'Brigata Nera' units of the Mussolini's Italian Social Republic which existed between 1943 to 1945. These units were engaged primarily in activities against Italian partisans during the last two years of the War. The fighting was often brutal with no quarter given by either side. This large nickel metal badge was worn on the ski cap by members of the Black Brigades. It is fitted with a simple prong fastener. With a pleasing patinated finish. Dimensions 43 x 47mm.
