R.A.F PATHFINDER metal wings.
These brass wings were worn by members of WW2 pathinder crews.
The Pathfinders were target-marking squadrons in RAF Bomber Command during World War II. They located and marked targets with flares, which a main bomber force could aim at, increasing the accuracy of their bombing.
The metal wing insignia was announced in the Air Ministry Orders of 1942 as a distinguishing badge for Members of Air Crews serving with 'Target Finding Squadrons', this being changed at a later date to that of the Path Finder Force. It has been stated that the reason that it was issued with pin back, was so it could be removed from a tunic for flying duties.
Fine quality solid brass wings with correct brooch pin.
